BequestGuide.org highlights just a few of the countless charitable legacies left by men and women over the centuries. In our first edition of the Guide we call on examples from the common-law tradition. In future editions we aim to include the venerable traditions of other cultures and welcome suggestions. Most of the individuals highlighted are either famous or founders of now-famous institutions.

Focusing on famous people was not done by choice but because it is their stories which are documented. Over the past 500 years and more, hundreds of thousands of ordinary men and women have exercised their right to make a will and leave a legacy. While undocumented to the same degree, the impact of their gifts is immeasurable.
